Happy Reformation Day!

Today is October Thirty-first.

When many peope think of this date, they think of this:

among other things.

Not everyone thinks of this:

What is it, you might ask? (Well, other than a door?)
That is the door Martin Luther nailed his Ninety-Five Theses to
494 years ago today, in 1517.

These 95 Theses were written by Martin Luther, to express his unhappiness with some of the practices and beliefs of the Catholic Church (mainly the selling of indulgences) to the Clergy.
This was incredibly risky.

Luther deliberately and publicly spoke out against the Catholic Church.

Remember, they held all the power back then. Everyone was Catholic. If you spoke out against Catholicism, you were excommunicated. Octracized. Sent away.

When Luther refused to renounce his writings, he was made an outlaw, and his writings were banned.

When this man risked everything, he inadvertently started a reformation of the church (Hence the name, Reformation Day).

We now have protestants because of ths.

If you want to learn more, there's a great movie, Luther, about it that does very well at portraying these events.

You never know how your actions and words anre going to influence people if you just listen to God, and let him work in your life. Trust me. You'll be amazed. ;)

Happy Reformation Day, everyone!
