Happy Christmas Eve!

So, according to my sister, under the right circumstances, her Christmas gift to me could kill me. So if none of you hear from me again, that's probably what happened to me.

Either that, or it was my Christmas tree...

Dream the Second: Tornado

This is a second-person story adaptation of a dream I once had. Enjoy!

Picture this: All around you is dry grass and weeds. Fields as far as your eyes can see. There are no trees. No bushes. No roads. Just you. And your family. And your new, huge, house. You just moved all of your possessions into the garage, and now you're taking a break outside, watching the clouds.

Suddenly, the clouds don't look so white anymore. No. They're turning dark, menacing, grey. Then, eventually, black. As far as you can see. No sun. No blue. Just black and green.

"Look!" someone in your family shouts, pointing to the horizon on the far right.

You look.

Someone else gasps.

An angry column of swirling, greyish-blackness is storming your way. Straight to your family. And your new house.

Everyone freezes for a moment.

Then they start yelling. Running into the house, the hallway.

Which is glass.

The hallway is glass.

There is nothing you can do.

Nowhere else to run.

The basement is too far away, cut off from you, and the other places are no sturdier than the hallway.

You pray for protection, and wait.

The tornado comes.

And stops. Right in front of your refuge.

You stare, heart pounding.

"No. Way. No flippin' way." you say, watching the tornado dissipate right in front of your eyes.

Irony

Mischief

A few weeks ago, my mom, sister, and I felt particularly mischevious, so we saran-wrapped a friend's car.

>:-]

His mom and sisters died laughing. Then they wrote on it with sharpies (on the plastic, of course...)

Once Upon a Dream (or, dream the first)

At church, we were throwing an anniversary party for our former pastor and his wife. Nearly everyone was helping with the setup, so we finished quickly. When my help was no longer needed, I started to leave, but someone ran up to me and said:

"Wait!! You forgot your tip card!" (random, I know) True enough, it had fallen out of my pocket. I thanked the person, and continued on my way when I saw one of my friends walking to her car. She was of medium height with really long, curly black hair (like Clara from Back to the Future III). The only odd thing was that she had purple ribbons with pink frosting roses on them in her hair.

Then, I was tall, had long very red hair, and green eyes. The scariest part: I was wearing a dress. Like a tunic. (Yes, I was a girl in this dream)

My friend and I were riding on a motorcycle through the woods. We stopped and moved some logs. Part of one (a squarish piece about the size of my palm) fell of and my friend tossed it to me. When I caught it, It changed to a sword hilt. The blade was long and intricate, but transluscent and sparkly gold.

I walked over to a clearing where I saw figures walking around. They too were transluscent sparkly gold and looked like they walked out of a fairytale. My friend walked up too, but couldn't see them. It turns out that I was one of them, but I didn't know it.

(Those people were called "The Enchanted Folk" and were driven out by "The Normal Folk". The Normal could only see the Enchanted if the Enchanted let them. They, explained all of this to my friend and I)

Then, an Enchanted girl stepped forward. (She looked like Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter) She told us that we were to go to dinner at the leader of the Normals house and find out what we could about their plans. While we were there, a dog started barking, and I woke up to my own dog barking.

So...I've been tagged...again

Thank you, Miss Jack Lewis Baillot.
I have to answer the 11 questions, write 11 things about myself, ask 11 questions, and tag 11 people.

1.) If you spent a week with Sherlock, would you want to punch him by the end of it?
I would enjoy the company of a like-minded person. But I would still punch him.

2.) Is your name Rick?
     Is it?

3.) Did you get what that was from?
The only things I can think of are the television show 'Castle', and old Saturday Night Live. "Rick? Rick!? RI-ICK!?"

4.) Have you ever turned your mum into a bear?
Well...there was this one time...but I didnae mean to, I promise.

5.) Have you ever sailed on the Jammy Dodger?
     Ah, memories...

6.) When you met Hook, did you ask to shake his hand?
     No. He asked me.

7.) Would you wear a fez?
I would try...but it wouldn't fit over my hair. I'm not kidding.

8.) You met a man named John Smith, what would you do?
     Say I was Martha Jones.

9.) Are you a spy?
     Sorry. That's classified.

10.) Do you have to kill me now that I know?
So it has come to this.

11.) Are you rude and not ginger?
I'm rude and ginger. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Eleven things about myself:

1.) I 've been writing on this blog for over a year now (and I can't believe it's been that long)

2.) I love snow. And it's snowing right now for the first time this season.

5.) I despise Christmas music. Except Handel's Messiah.

6.) I don't prefer to text.

7.) I would wear a kilt if I had the opportunity.

8.) I perform many social experiments. The other day, I dressed up very Steampunk-like, and walked around a store. Two little girls were leaving the store with their father, and they too, were wearing floor length costume dresses. They said, "Look daddy! She dressed up too!"

9.) Yesterday, I wore a deerstalker hat (more commonly known as a 'Sherlock Holmes hat) when I went grocery shopping. Oh, the looks people gave me. It was hilarious!

10.) I wrapped my friend's car with plastic wrap.

11.) I dare disturb the universe.

And eleven questions....

1.) Are you and I mad?

2.) Do you read nonfiction for fun?

3.) How do you feel about opera?

4.) Are you human?

5.) When you traveled to Saturn, what did you find?

6.) What would you do if the people in your television walked into your living room?

7.) Are you a pumpkin - eater?

8.) Have you developed an immunity to iocane?

9.) Under what circumstances did you join the Dread Pirate Roberts' crew?

10.) If you bumped into Adolf Hitler, what would you say to him?

11.) Why are you staring at my nose?

And I tag anyone that dares disturb the universe.

Be bold, my friends.

Blog Fest

I discovered a blog fest hosted at: alexjcavanaugh.blogspot.com and though "Hm. This sounds pretty cool. I've never done one of these before..." So here I am.

The topic is Four Favorites.

Favorite movie Genre.
This is difficult. I really like science fiction and fantasy. But I think I'll have to choose Adventure, because Sci-fi and Fantasy tend to be subgenres of that genre.

Music Genre:
Another hard one. Movie soundtracks. Especially Celtic soundtracks...

Book Genre
*stares intensely at bookshelf*
Adventure. And most of its subcategories. Most.

A guilty pleasure from one of the four.
Opera. (except in German. No offense to the language or any that speak it)

My Writing Blog

I made a new blog. Well, the blog itself isn't new, but the purpose is. In the poll on the sidebar, you said that you wanted me to post more about writing. Well, quite frankly, I don't see that happening. Sorry. My life and mind are a bit too hectic at this time to write a nice, structured post.
However, I will post things there (roughly once a week, probably fridays) that I wrote a few months ago when I was on my writing spree.

I've Been Tagged...Twice

Both Jake and Eruantien Nenharma have tagged me.

First, Jake with the

award, and then

Eruantien with the

Thank you!

The rules for the Liebster:

- If you are tagged/nominated, you must post eleven facts about yourself.

- Then, you must answer the eleven questions the tagger has given you and make eleven questions for the people you are going to tag.

- Next, tag eleven more bloggers.

- Tell the people you tagged that you have tagged them

- No tagging back.

- The person you tagged must have less than 200 followers.

And for the Lovely Blogger:
1. You have to thank the person who nominated you on their blog to receive your honour.
     (already done in a comment)

2. You have to tell 7 things about yourself and human canoe counts!

3. You have to nominate 15 blogs and then tell them of their nomination!

Well, here goes:

1.) I sometimes slip into a Scottish accent (and then my friends and family make fun of me)

2.) I love traveling

3.) I play the trombone

4.) I can also play piano, clarinet, and tin whistle (though not officially. I can really only play songs by ear on those instruments - I can only read bass clef)

5.) God gave me the gift of being able to understand people

6.) I love climbing (rocks are a lot easier when you're barefoot)

7.) I plan on learning as many languages as I can, getting my pilots' liscence, and becoming a Missionary Pilot

8.) Contrary to popular belief, I am, in fact, a girl.

9.)  I love shoes and going barefoot

10.) If you want to know how my mind works, pay close attention to the main characters of Sherlock and Doctor Who

11.) I despise Google.

12.) I'm an intovert and I love people

13.) I'm made for British weather

14.) I don't like constancy. It makes life boring and predictable.

15.) I don't like pointless things or conversation. Life is short - why waste it on things that don't matter?

16.) According to the Myers-Briggs, I'm an INTP/INFP

17.) I make jewelry

18.) People really like me, but I can sit in a roomful of said people for a long time, and no one will talk to me.

Now for the questions:

1.) What's your favorite place in the world?
Well. I've been to all but sixteen states, and there are soo many places I haven't seen yet. So my favorite place that I haven't been is either Scotland, Ireland, Wales, or Nothern Ireland.
My favorite places that I have been are either Colorado, Kansas, Maryland, Piatt Park (in central Ohio), Georgia (though I could never live there - it's much too hot and humid), Washington, and the coast of Northern California

2.) What do you think about Kansas? (>:D)
Love it! Actually, I've been craving the endless fields and hills and skies for about four months now. I only hate how the trees are far, few, and not normally good climbing ones (at least from what I've seen), and the feed lots stink like you wouldn't believe - and it's the food, not the cows' excrement that smells so horribly (or were those in Nebraska?).

3.) Favorite song?
I can't pick. But my favorite genres are Celtic (instrumental), classical, some Opera, soundtracks, and a band called Flatfoot56.

4.) Favorite quote?
    I don't have one.

5.) G. K. Chesterton is, to you, what? Your opinion?
A brilliantly mad philosopher that loves rabbit-chasing and has an amazing writing style.

6.) Best speculative fiction you've read recently? In absence of speculative fiction, what's the best book you've read recently, non-fiction or fiction?
I haven't read much lately, actually. Quite honestly, I haven't finished a book in weeks.

7.) Best kind of cookie?
    Snickerdoodle

8.) Your opinion of pie?
     Better than cake

9.) What color is your favorite shirt?
     Grey-green

10.) Are you procrastinating?
      Yes.

11.) If you're a writer, what are you currently writing? If you're not a writer, what big thing have you done recently?
I'm a writer, but I'm not currently writing anything. Unless thoughts in a journal count.

And my questions:

1.) What matters to you the most, honestly?

2.) Are you a leader, or a follower?

3.) When was the last time you had a deep and meaningful conversation with someone?

4.) What do you want to do with your life?

5.) What, in your opinion, makes people insecure? (please think deeply on this one)

6.) Do you watch television? (if so, what shows do you like, and why?)

7.) If you had one month to live, and money was no object, what would you do?

8.) Are you going to watch the Olympics? (if so, what events?)

9.) What do you do in your spare time?

10.) What do you dream of?

11.) What's your favorite season?

12.) What do you think of bow ties?

13.) Do you wear hats?

14.) Shoe size?

15.) What do you see yourself doing in 20 years?

16.) If you had to move to another country under an alias, where and what would it be?

17.) If you were to be remembered for one thing, what would you want it to be?)

18.) What are your thoughts on society?

Because two tags at once get confusing, I've decided to morph it into a new one.

So, I tag

Nikko at Bagpipes and Ink

Two Years.

Two years ago today, I joined The Underground as Pathfinder.
Thank you, Elves of the UG for all of the amazing memories!

Beautiful People: Villains

Normally this is for people who write novels, but I have a fun villain
from a narrative poem I wrote. Enjoy!

Riann Swiftstorm

1. What is their motive?
Revenge and spite

2. What are they prepared to do to get what they want?
Anything necessary.

3. Are they evil to the core, or simply misunderstood?
Misunderstood, more like, but has done evil deeds

4. What was their past like? What about their childhood? Was there
one defining moment that made them embrace their evil ways?
She lived in a port city with her parents. One day, whwn she was
young, a band of marauders came and pillaged her city. They killed her
parents while she was hiding from them (the marauders, not her
parents) in a closet, and she saw it through the crack between the
doors. She then vowed revenge and set about getting it.

5. Now that they're evil, have they turned their back on everyone, or
is there still someone in their life that they care for? (Brother?
Daughter? Love interest? Mother? Someone who is just as evil as they
are?)
No. Her family is dead, and she sees anything she loves as something
that can be torn away again and cause her even more pain.

6. Do they like hugs?
^_- No.

7. Are they plagued by something? (Nightmares? Terrible thoughts?)
You really think I'll ask her? Throw a party for me instead of a
funeral, please.

8. Who are they more similar to: Gollum or Maleficent?
Ooh...Gollum.

9. If your villain could have their choice of transportation what would it be?
Teleportation. That would be an evil day.

10. If you met your villain in the street, how afraid would you be?
Are they evil enough to kill their creator?
Not very. She wouldn't realize who i am, so as long as i don't get on
her way, I'll be fine...i think.

06 May 2012

Last night was the "Supermoon", the biggest full moon to occur all

year.

And you know what I did?

I slept outside.

Under the stars, er, tree.

Without a tent.

(Lucky for me, there was 0% chance of rain in the forecast. How often

does that happen where I live? Exactly.)

And guess what?

It wasn't dark.

The Supermoon was so bright, I didn't need a flashlight.

It was so bright, I couldn't fall asleep for quite a bit.

Then, a little while after I finally did fall asleep, I woke up again to

very bright moonlight in my eyes.

I turned over and tried to go back to sleep.

After about twenty minutes, I did. For about another three hours.

Then the blasted birds woke me up.

It was 5:40 in the morning.

I walked inside and went to bed.

Needless to say, I'm pretty tired today. But it was worth it. Why?

1) I got to see the supermoon
2) I slept outside without a tent = Bucket list item. Plus, if I ever write a cliched novel where the main character(s) go on a long journey by foot, it'll be easier to write about their first night sleeping outside. :-D

Only on Leap Day

Only on Leap Day would I have a dream with two things that actually happened while I was dreaming.

       1) A thunderstorm (which was impossible in my dream because I was on the Starship Enterprise...in the far reaches of the Universe...where there is no atmosphere...)
       2) Nothing I can explain without being too weird (sorry)

So, I woke up to a thunderstorm. My yard was flooded. Actually, so was the building that I went to. One of the hallways literally had about 2.5 inches of standing water.
Need I mention that it's February?
And it's storming....again.
*lightning flashes*
Yes. It's about to storm soon.
My house is surrounded by cumulonimbus (storm) clouds with lightning illuminating them.
*checks the clouds outside*
and they're passing us.
They had formed a  horseshoe around our house. Come to think of it, they looked a lot like the clouds that I thought the Rocky Mountains were the first time I traveled to Colorado.

Here are some pictures:

Did any strange things happen to you today?

P. S.

Does Leap Day remind anyone else of Ireland? (Or is it just me)
